MY PRESS-PACK REPORT: THE NORTHERN HAIRY-NOSED WOMBAT
Almost Extinct
The Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat is a nocturnal marsupial. It is native to the semi-arid areas of central
What started it?
The Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat has never been very common. The numbers have been reduced by the clearing of suitable habitat, brought about by European settlers. Now the wombats have to compete for food against sheep, cattle and feral animals such as the fox, rabbit and cat. These were all brought to
Why is nothing being done about it?
I think the main reason is because it is not publicised very much. Not very many things are known about the wombat. To research anything, you need money, and charities are usually the source of this money. But there are none to support the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat.
But something that angers me greatly is the fact that Australians are prepared to support the Koala (that isn’t in that much danger) on “Save the Koala Day”. But they do not want to help the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat, because they don’t think it is very “cute”! So that is what my report is for, publicising the fact that the wombat needs our help! Are you going let it be wiped of the face of this earth forever?
